About me

I’m a writer and researcher working on politics and culture in and around East Asia. I’m currently completing a PhD at NYU, where I focus on modern Chinese literature and intellectual history.

My essays and op-eds have been published in Public Books, Commonweal, The New Inquiry, Protean, and Strange Horizons, among other outlets. I have broad writing and research interests, spanning cultural and literary criticism, international relations, human rights, and more.

Outside of my writing and academic work, I’m also affiliated with the Hong Kong Democracy Council, a U.S.-based nonprofit which focuses on research, diaspora-building, and policy advocacy related to Hong Kong’s democracy movement.

I received my M.A. from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and my B.A. from Williams. I’m a native Californian, and have spent time in New York City, D.C., Hong Kong, and various places in the northeastern United States over the past decade.
